Philipp and Dan met while living together in a volunteer community in the Dorchester neighborhood of Boston, where their mutual interests in art and social justice would become the cornerstone of their friendshipPhilipp, a musician with an interest in visual arts and design, had come to the United States to work in the 'developing world within the developed world' of urban America. He taught computer classes, worked with children and stocked the food pantry of a homeless woman's shelter and resource center. Dan, an aspiring writer and artist from New York hoped to share his time and talents with homeless families. He taught English as a second language and ran a creative writing group for homeless women. Working in the same place and living together provided them ample opportunity to get to know one another and to discuss social issues, life and art. It wasn't long before they began to collaborate. In fact, it took only two weeks. One night Philipp was fiddling around with something on his guitar and Dan unearthed some old lyrics. An hour later, they performed their first song. Within four months, they had written, recorded and produced an eight-song album, entitled Images of Light. They called their two-man band, For Tomorrow. Their
art output over the next year was astonishing. While working over
forty hours a week, they recorded a second album and wrote, directed,
and produced a short film. Philipp is currently studying Political Science in Germany. He makes films, writes songs and smokes too many cigarettes. Dan helps run a volunteer program in San Francisco. He writes songs, stories, and film scripts, eats too many burritos, and is in the process of applying for an MFA in Writing. And that's probably more than you ever wanted to know. |

| While this may seem like a couple about to share an intimate moment, it is actually Philipp and Dan discussing the life cycle of marine mammals. This photo was taken during the latest recording rendezvous in San Francisco, CA. |
