Before I paint I try to focus on a concept, idea or emotion and let all other thoughts fall away. Sometimes I try to focus on nothing at all. The pen, pastel or brush floats across the page without thought or intention, which is why I refer to this style as unintentional art. For me, it is about trying to give form, shape and color to perceptions, intangible or subconscious.

Sometimes when I finish a work I can clearly see the connection between what I was meditating on when I began and the finished work. Other times, there seems no correlation at all between my thoughts and the finished product, but I can see that something entirely unexpected has bullied its way onto the canvas. In that, my art is as much a process of self-understanding as it is a creative endeavor. (Dan Vaccaro)
